====== 1-to-1 Device Program Policies ======

Students and parents participating in the Korean International School (KIS) 1-to-1 Device Program must adhere to the following policies. Please read each statement carefully.

===== Device Management and Ownership =====
  * Upon enrollment in the 1-to-1 Device Program, devices will be equipped with mobile device management (MDM) software for educational, compliance, and safeguarding purposes.
  * The 1-to-1 devices remain the property of the student and parents at all times. The school provides management via the MDM system solely to support learning, ensure compliance with school rules, and promote student wellbeing.
  * Upon departure or graduation, the MDM profile will be removed, and the device will be reset to factory settings. Students are responsible for backing up personal files prior to the reset. The school is not liable for any data loss during this process.

===== Application and Content Control =====
  * 1-to-1 devices are fully managed by the school IT Department. Only applications approved for classroom learning and educational purposes will be installed.
  * If parents or students require additional applications to be installed, they should submit a request for review and approval by the IT Department.
  * All internet traffic on school Wi-Fi is filtered and may be monitored for safety and compliance with school policies.
  * Device traffic and activity is further filtered and monitored through the MDM system both on and off campus. While MDM filtering remains active off-campus, the school does not provide real-time monitoring outside of school hours. Primary responsibility for supervision outside of school hours rests with the parents/guardians.

===== Usage Guidelines =====
  * Students must use their 1-to-1 devices as directed by their classroom or subject teacher, primarily for instructional and curriculum-related purposes.
  * Devices may also be used at home for homework, self-directed study, and other educational activities under parental supervision. Parents are responsible for overseeing appropriate use, screen time, and online safety outside school hours.
  * New students who have ordered a 1-to-1 device may borrow a Chromebook from the IT Department until their device arrives.
  * Technical issues with 1-to-1 devices during the school year will be addressed by the IT Department.
  * Students must bring their 1-to-1 devices and accessories to school every day, ensuring they are fully charged at home.
  * Devices must be clearly labeled with the student's name.
  * Devices must be placed in a protective case or cover, which is the responsibility of parents and students to purchase.
  * Printing from student 1-to-1 devices is not permitted at school.

===== Restrictions During School Hours =====
  * 1-to-1 program devices cannot be used during assessments unless specifically instructed by a teacher or invigilator.
  * Students must power off and put away their devices if directed to do so by a teacher or school administrator.
  * Devices must be set to silent mode except when actively used for instruction as directed by a teacher.
  * Students may only access files or websites relevant to the classroom curriculum or as explicitly directed by a teacher.
  * Devices should not be used outside the classroom or common areas (such as the library, canteen, or gym) unless instructed by a teacher and under staff supervision.
  * Students must not attempt to remove, bypass, modify, or tamper with the MDM profile or any school restrictions (including jailbreaking or installing unapproved apps).

===== Responsibility and Liability =====
  * Students are responsible for the care and safekeeping of their devices and accessories. The school is not liable for any loss, theft, damage, or malfunction.
  * Students and parents must report any loss, theft, or damage to the IT Department within 24 hours. The school may assist with MDM-based location tracking or remote wipe where technically possible, but accepts no liability.
  * Parents are strongly encouraged to arrange their own insurance cover for the device and accessories.

===== Privacy and Safeguarding =====
  * Students must respect the privacy of others. No student may capture, store, or transmit images/videos of staff or peers without explicit informed consent AND a clear educational purpose. Images or videos must never be captured in private areas (e.g., toilets, changing rooms).
  * Students are prohibited from transmitting or posting images or videos of any individuals on campus to public or social networking sites without explicit consent from all individuals shown (and parental consent for minors). Official school-approved channels are exempt.

===== Data Collection and Privacy =====
  * The school collects limited device usage data (including browsing history and application activity) via the MDM system at all times while the device is under management.
  * This data is used exclusively for:\\      a) student safeguarding and wellbeing,\\      b) ensuring academic integrity, and\\      c) maintaining compliance with school rules.\\
  * Collection and processing comply with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486). The school collects only data necessary for the stated purposes and takes practicable steps to ensure data is not kept longer than required.
  * The MDM system retains certain logs (such as audit logs for user and device actions) for up to two years for security purposes; other personal data is generally removed within 30 days after relevant deletion events (e.g., user or device removal) where applicable.
  * The data will not be shared externally without consent, except where required by law or for safeguarding reasons. 

===== Consequences of Breaches =====
Device use is a privilege, not a right. Breaches of these policies may result in: 
  * Temporary or permanent confiscation of the device
  * Loss of 1-to-1 privileges 
  * Disciplinary action in accordance with the School’s Behaviour / Safeguarding Policy 
  * In serious cases (e.g., illegal activity or repeated privacy breaches), referral to the Principal or external authorities 
  * The school reserves the right to inspect a device where there are reasonable grounds to suspect a breach of school policy or illegal activity.

===== General Provisions =====
  * The school reserves the right to amend these policies at any time. In the event of changes, the latest published version (available on the school website) will take precedence.
  * These policies apply to all participating students (Primary Y5–Y6, Secondary, Springboard Secondary and Springboard Post-16). Additional classroom-level supervision may apply for younger students as directed by teachers.
  * Parents agree to: supervise device use at home, ensure the device is brought to school daily and fully charged, purchase a protective case, and support the school’s safeguarding and acceptable-use expectations.
  * By participating in the 1-to-1 Device Program, students and parents agree to comply with these policies.
